Jared Augustin

Jared Augustin is a painter living and working in Newcastle, Ontario, a small lakeside town on the north shore of Lake Ontario. His work moves between oil, acrylic, and works on paper, returning again and again to the water, the fields, and the long, low light of the region he calls home.

Largely self-taught, Jared began painting in earnest after years of sketching on job sites and roadsides across Durham Region. That habit of working quickly and on location still shapes the work — many pieces begin as small studies made outdoors and are only later resolved in the studio. The result is a body of work that feels both considered and immediate.

He is drawn to the ordinary geography of where he lives: a treeline, a back road, the harbour at the end of the day. The aim is never to document a place exactly, but to hold onto the particular quiet of standing in it. His paintings have been shown in regional exhibitions throughout Northumberland and Durham, and are held in private collections across Ontario.
